The Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ken Nwosu, has been attacked and shot by some unidentified gunmen.
According to the state Police Command, the development occurred on Wednesday night around Umuajata/ Amakamma road, outskirts of Umuahia, metropolis.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the attack, informed that the Commissioner was driving home at about 8.05pm when the assailants struck.
The Commissioner was reportedly overtaken by a group of gunmen in his Toyota Camry car and immediately opened fire on him.
The state Police spokesman narrated that the gunmen shot the Commissioner in stomach and bullet penetrated into his intestines, while maintained shooting before escaping.
Asked if the assailants were assassins, kidnappers or robbers, the PPRO responded: “From the look of things, it was obvious they had a hidden agenda as they did not bother to remove any thing from him or take his car. Investigations will unravel their real motive”.
He said so far, no arrest had been made, but urged members of the public to volunteer any useful information that could help security operatives track down the attackers.
African Examiner learnt the Commissioner is still receiving treatment at the Abia State Specialist Hospital, Umuahia.
