Acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris Appoints New Police Spokesperson

ABUJA, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has appointed Mr. Don Awunah as the Force new Public Relations Officer.

An administrative officer at the Force Public Relations Department, Abuja, Murtala Bello, made this public in a statement he issued Monday.

Until his appointment, Awunah was a Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Homicide Section of Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) Abuja.

The Police current Force publicist is a B.A degree holder in Philosophy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as well as has M.A in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Benue State University, Makurdi.

He is a Fellow of Institute of Security Studies, Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration and Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Awunah is to replace Mrs. Olabisi Kolawole, the Nigeria first female to occupy the position. She had held sway from August last year (2015).

Meanwhile, Kolawole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, has appealed to the mass media and the general public to cooperate with the new Force Spokesperson.

On his part, Awunah promised to work to increase the tempo of good relationship between the Police and the public in line with the policy thrust of the Nigeria Police Force.
