Angry Youths Barricade Bauchi-Jos Road Over Killing of Okada Rider

Agabus Pwanagba, Jos

Youths in Miya Barkatai Village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Tuesday protested the killing of a motorcycle rider by a driver of a Vectra car along Bauchi-Jos Federal Highway.

The Protesting Youths barricaded the road as motorists were trapped for about three hours causing long queues and a lot of hardships to vehicles plying the road.

One of the Passengers, Musa Bala told Africa Examiner that if not for the timely intervention of the police, the protest would have turned to a “serious deadly problem.”

“When he knocked and killed the okada rider he ran for his life and abandoned his car, the angry youths burnt down the vehicle and tyres along the road but thank God they open the road again.” Musa explained

A security source told African Examiner “it took the police and the community leaders to calm the angry youths”.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of Bauchi, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said “the matter was resolved and Police open the road and we are appealing to drivers to obey traffic rules.”
