Another Rep Speaker Aspirant Withdraws, Declares Support For Dogora

By Ganiyu Nasirudeen – The outgoing Chairman House Committee on Finance, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, ‎Wednesday backed out of the race to contest for Speakership of the 8th lower Federal legislative Chamber and announced his support for another co-contestant, Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

The latest development has left the contest for Dogara and seemingly more favored aspirant who is also the outgoing House Minority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Hon. Jibrin’s decision was hinged on earlier withdrawal and declaration of support for Gbajabiamila by three other aspirants including: Hons. Pally Iriase; Yusuf Lasun and Goni Bukar.

He, however stated that he stepped down so as to allow the tension his ambition has created in the ruling APC, subsided and as part of his support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to enjoy its deserving peace from all the ruling APC stalwarts.

Another factor that is most likely to inform Jibrin’s withdrawal and support to Dogora was the recent collapsed of alliance which he and Gbajabiamila attempted to form.

Meanwhile, Hon. Gbajabiamila while speaking on the development, said he was not bothered about Jibrin’s support to his co-aspirant, Dogora, adding that he was sure of victory.

Hon. Dogara, who is the Chairman, House Committee on House Services, he’s from Bauchi State, North West, while Gbajabiamila is representing Surulere Federal Constituency, in Lagos State, South Western Nigeria.

The new House speaker election holds Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
