Assemblies of God Church Crisis: Northern Leaders Back Rev. Paul Emeka

Agabus Pwanagba, Jos – The Northern Regional Leaders of the Assemblies of God Church are seeking reconciliatory means of ending the leadership crisis rocking the Church, by appealing to the warring factions in the Church to bury their differences and return to one fold so that the goal of propagating the Gospel of Christ can be achieved.

The position of the Church’s Leaders from the 19 Northern States was presented by their Chairman Reverend Baba Fada, on Monday, at a press briefing held in Jos.

Fada said they are saddened by the leadership crisis that has bedeviled the Church since 2013, saying the Church exists to “serve God and not to be served”.

He noted that the Church, which was established in 1934 to among other goals, promote fellowship among believers is a peace loving movement whose position is that of “reconciliation and peace”.

The Cleric faulted the actions of the Rev. Chidi Okoroafor-led faction for carrying out a “Coup” in the Church by forcefully removing the General Superintendent, Rev. Paul Emeka without due process as well as indiscriminately suspending Pastors loyal to Rev. Emeka and appealed to the faction to tow the path of peace for the good of the Church.

Fada who is from the Katsina District of the Church decried the use of suspension as weapon of intimidation to force members to support the illegal removal of the Church’s General suspension.

His words:  “So far, over 300 members of the Church have been suspended but we are still interested in the Biblical principle of reconciliation.

“The Northern Region Leaders of Assemblies of God, Nigeria are deeply saddened by the leadership crisis which has engulfed our Church, we stand unequivocally behind the leadership of Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka as that is the true position as enshrined in the Church’s constitution.

“We are a peace loving movement, the Church exists to serve God and not to be served, we therefore call on our fellow brothers from the other faction to come back and let’s continue in the Lord’s vineyard as fellow co-workers.

“We call on the peace loving people, Pastors and all Church Boards and members of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, particularly the Northern Region to remain calm and disregard any claim to a new leadership but remain loyal to the existing leadership of Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka.”
