Ekiti 2014: Fayose Wins PDP Gubernatorial Ticket

The former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, has emerged winner of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the 2014 gubernatorial election of the state.

Fayose who emerged with 462 votes out of 477 votes during the party primary at Great Eagle event centre, Ikere road of the state while Magret Oguniyi 1, Caleb Olubolade 7, Clemet Adeyeye 3 and voids 4.

Meanwhile, former minister of Police affairs, Mr. Caleb Olubolade, and 13 contestants boycoutted the primary.

Speaking after he was declared winner by the party election chairman and former governor, Rivers State, Peter Odili, Fayose described the election free and fair.

Fayose however called on all aggrieved parties to come and support the party so as to reclaim its lost glory in the state.

In his word, “The next step now is that, we have to start a reconciliation process; appealing to our brothers and sisters who maybe aggrieved in any way to please come on board and let us work together. Nobody nor governor alone can do it in isolation, even when you get to government, you cannot run it alone. There are so many things to share together and things we can do for them. Some will want to contest as senator, member of House of Representative and other benefits, this is not the end of the world for all of us.

“I want to assure all of them that I will work with them. I am a better person now 11 years after my first election. I was elected 2003, this is 2014, I should be given a chance, that chance to work with them.

“This is a different Ayo Fayose, more matured, more responsive and more responsible and I am ready to work with all of them. They should let us shield our sword and come together; one of us would be governor, one of us would be deputy, chief of staff, a lot can be commissioners and lots more to get through the state to be federal instrument.”

Speaking on the outcome of the election, PDP Chairman, Oyo State, Honourable Yinka Taiwo, described the election as most peaceful and orderly manner which show the true democracy that exist in the party.

He expressed believe that the party leadership will call all other aspirants that boycotted the election and settle whatever grievances that may be in their minds.

Without doubt, the outgoing PDP Vice President, South-West, Chief Ishola Filani, said the party will win the state gubernatorial election gallantly, stating that the peaceful internal democracy in the party will proof the people of the state that PDP is back to wipe away their tears.
