Civil Servant Commits Suicide Over Fiancée’s Parents Refusal To Approve Marriage

FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Owerri – The polytechnic town of Nekede, in Owerri West Council Area of Imo state, has been thrown into anxiety, as a civil servant, Chibuzor Awobi, allegedly committed suicide, following the refusal of his fiancee’s parent to approve his planned marriage with their daughter.
A source told African Examiner on Tuesday that family of the deceased made the sad news known to their neighbors on Monday.
According to the source, the late 36 year old Awobi, drank a substance suspected to be poison after it became obvious to him that parents of his fiancee and the family members, have vowed not to allow the marriage.
It was gathered that until his death, Awobi was a staff of the State ministry of Internal Resources and Pensions.
Said the source: “he was said to have died because the parents and brothers of his fiancée, one Chioma Agukpaha, from Ihitte Emeabiam community in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state refused him from marrying her.
