Court Acquits Fani-Kayode On Money Laundering Suit

By Ayo Balogun – Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode’s money laundering charge has been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Delivering her ruling on the suit instituted against the ex-Minister by the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC), Wednesday morning, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, acquitted and freed Fani-Kayode as she held that the prosecution case “is feeble” as well as failed to prove the allegations against the respondent beyond the reasonable doubt.

Fani-Kayode, trial dated back to 2008 beginning with Justice Ramat Mohammed, on allegation of money laundering, involving estimated N100 million while in office.

The former Minister of Culture and Tourism alleged sum, involved in the suit was later slashed to N2.1 million in November, 2014 as the court then, dismissed 38 out of the 40-count charges pressed against him on lack of merit.
