By Ganiyu Nasirudeen

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has alerted the public that he escaped an attempt on his life Tuesday, in FCT Abuja, by hired assassins.

Ekweremadu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Uche Anichukwu, explained that the suspected assassins operated in a tinted, white-coloured Mercedez Benz AMG E63 without number plate.

The failed operation the second Senator’s aide indicated took place around 10am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, around the old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters junction, when on his way to the office.

Anichukwu also confirmed that the assassins were transported by a long-bearded light skinned foreigner, believed to be a mercenary.

On noticing the deputy senate President’s convoy, the statement said the vehicle, which has been positioned by the Apo Bridge, took the right turn to link the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway and made a U-turn.

Efforts by the occupants of the trailing vehicle to attack Ekwremadu’s official car and his convoy the statement said failed.

“When charged at by the security operatives attached to Ekweremadu, the Benz driver made a U-turn, and partially smashed an oncoming vehicle on the opposite lane of the highway and escaped” stated the Deputy Senate President.

Ekweremadu’s aide has since confirmed that the attempted attack has been reported to the security agencies.
