Dozens Killed In Fresh Suicide Bomb Attack In Maiduguri Fish Market


*Wakil Condemns Bombings in Maiduguri

From Mustapha Abdul Salaam – Several people have been killed in four bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The eruption occurred late Saturday morning at Baga park, which also sited fish market.

AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that the death toll of the suicide bomb attack is over 50. Many were also injured in the attack.

The State Police Command is yet to confirm the incident.

The Saturday attack occurred amid the fierce onslaught of the military against the Boko Haram insurgents, who have captured many towns and communities in the troubled North Eastern States.

A resident of the area Aliyu Musa told Reuters “Men from the anti-bomb squad came a few minutes after the blast to comb the scene, then they started evacuating victims. I saw five mangled bodies being put in vehicles,”

While Salisu Yaya said “I have counted five ambulances that have evacuated victims from the scene. Soldiers are shooting in the air and warding off people at the market,”‎

Wakil Condemns Bombings in Maiduguri

Meanwhile, Minister of State Power, Hon Mohammed Wakil who is from Maiduguri state, has condemned as reprehensible renewed bombings of civilian targets in Maiduguri on Saturday, calling on local and international human rights organisations to document and indict Boko Haram leaders for crime against humanity.

In a condolence message he personally signed over the bombings of Monday and Baga Tashan markets as well as areas of Bulunkuntu, the minister described the unfortunate incidents as crime against humanity, which the International Criminal Court should take up without further delay.

“The targets of Boko Haram are women, children and the elderly. Bombing civilian targets is a crime against humanity. I call on Amnesty international and Human Rights Watch and other similar groups to deploy resources towards documenting for indictments the leaders of Boko Haram. Boko Haram leaders should face trial at the ICC”, the minister said.
