Enugu House Clears 24 Commissioner Nominees


By  IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday cleared and confirmed all the twenty-four commissioner nominees sent to it by last week by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Edward Ubosi, explained that the confirmation of the nominees, was based on their performance on the floor of the House when they faced barrage of questions during the screening by members of the House.

He said: “In view of the performance of the nominees, the House do approve their appointments”

The Speaker, subsequently directed the clerk of the House to communicate to the governor accordingly.

Earlier before their confirmation during the House plenary, leader of the House, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, had expressed the view that “when confirmed the nominees would “do us proud.”

According to him, “because of the calibre of the commissioner nominees, the house members merely asked them to take a bow while some of them were asked questions.

AFRICAN EXAMINER reports that those who were asked to take a bow and leave without questions during the screening exercise were, Ambassador. Fidel Ayogu, Hon. Chijoke Edoga, Hon. Peace Nnaji and Hon. Ogbonna Asogwa.

Others who did not go through the rigours of screening include a former commissioners, Rita Mba, Mike Ene the immediate past commissioner for Agriculture and Barr. Charles Egumgbe, pioneer chairman of Enugu PDP and ex- commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state.

With the development, the governor Ugwuanyi,led administration is now set to commence full government business, as he is expected to form his cabinet any moment from  now.
