The Federal Government has complained that the residency training programme for Doctors in the federal owned hospitals is below the standard and no more impacting as expected on the Medical Practitioners.
Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu gave the complaint in Abuja Tuesday at a one-day intensive appraisal of the programme.
Professor Chukwu noted that the recent industrial action by Doctors was an eye opener to some of the challenges which has been facing the training over the years.
Chukwu therefore advocated for a new approach that would overhaul and rescue the entire system, which he stressed was derailing from its focus and fundamental objectives.
He tasked the appraisal committee to look critically at the issue with a view to providing effective lasting solutions.
