Former Enugu PDP Factional Chairman, Nnaji Sets To Reopen Suit To Reclaim Position

Ignatius Okpara, Enugu

Fresh crisis is looming in the Enugu state’s chapter of the ruling People’s Democratic party, (PDP), as its one time national auditor and factional Chairman, Barrister Ray Nnaji, has vowed  to return to court to reclaim his position.

Nnaji, who lamented the present worrisome situation in the party told newsmen Monday in Enugu that he would soon return to court to re-open his suit over the authentic Chairman of the party in the state.

He equally expressed worry that rather than submitting to the tenets of the party, certain officials, who were not part of its formation had carried on as if they were above it.

The former factional head, who recalled how he emerged the state chapter’s chairman of the party after its congress in 2008, vowed to reopen the matter with a view to unseating the incumbent leadership, led by Vita Abba, whom he accused of being part of the party,s problem in the state.

Hear him: “I had to concede my position as chairman to Vita Abba on certain conditions,  which have not been met and I am now going back to reclaim that position so that the correct thing can be done”.

“We have to correct terrible things happening in our party. These are people, who do not know when this party was formed, who did not contribute to the party and now want to destroy the party; we will not allow them to do so”, he stressed.

Nnaji further alleged a grand plan by certain persons within the state leadership of the party to play into the hands of the opposition, warning against attempt to impeach (impeached this morning) state Deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, saying it could create crisis that would work against the party in the coming elections.

He accused the Vita Abba-led state EXCO for  allowing itself to be used to destabilize the party from what he described as rubber stamp of the state government.

According to him, “What is happening to Sunday Onyebuchi is not good for this party. We should not allow certain things happening now to have negative effect on the party in the forthcoming elections. The peace we have in the party is the peace of the graveyard and it will explode any moment from now”.

Nnaji warned that it was a bad signal, where a Deputy Governor is being impeached and issue was never discussed by the party before the process begins.
