INEC Says Collation Of Rivers Guber Election Results Resumes April 2

…As Court Stops Adamawa Supplementary Election

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced it will resume the suspended collation and announcement of results for the Rivers State Governorship election from Tuesday, April 2, to Friday, April 5, 2019.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye made the announcement Thursday, in Abuja at a press conference.

According to the INEC Commissioner, where necessary, supplementary elections would be conducted on Saturday, April 13, while issuance of all outstanding Certificates of Return would be concluded on Friday, April 19.

Mr. Okoye informed that the INEC had taken steps to stop the court order restraining the Commission from embarking on collation of results in the affected Local Government areas.

It would be recalled that the INEC was forced to suspend the collation of the South South State Governorship results collation due fracas that broke out at State collation centre among the party loyalists and security operatives.

The Governorship election held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in 29 States.

Meanwhile, a State High Court in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, has ordered the INEC not to conduct the Governorship supplementary poll slated for this Saturday, March 23 alongside five other States.

Justice Abdulaaziz Waziri in his ruling Thursday held that the order would stay pending the determination of a counter affidavit filed by the electoral body challenging the statutory jurisdiction of the court to entertain a post-election matter.
