Barely 24 hours after confirmation on Monday by the Health Minster, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) infection by one of the doctors who attended to the first victim in Nigeria, Patrick Sawyer, the Lagos state Government has corroborated the country’s chief health officer revelation.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris confirmed that the infected doctor, a female, was one of the physicians who attended to the late Liberian, Sawyer before his demise about two weeks ago in a Lagos private hospital.
According to him, the victim has been put under a clinical surveillance, while disclosing that the state has since opened an isolation centre and commenced renovation of another in the state’s Mainland Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has confirmed that about 60 doctors have died since the outbreak of the deadly EVD.
