NAN Alleges Plot To Plant Fake Stories On Its Platform

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) says It has uncovered plots by some political forces to hack into its system and plant fake stories to “cause serious public disaffection, chaos and unrest.”

This was contained in a statement issued by management of NAN and sent to African Examiner online.

The full statement reads:

“The Management of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, has unearthed a plot by some elements working with desperate political forces to plant a major but false story with a fake email address bearing NAN name and imprint. The motive behind this is to cause serious public disaffection, chaos and unrest.

“The Management of NAN therefore wishes to alert all our subscribers and the general public to this evil plot. We wish to point out that only news and information from our official portal www.nannigerianews.com is the Agency’s authentic news service delivery.

“The Agency uses this opportunity to put the various security agencies on notice about this plot, and urges them to assist in ensuring that it is nipped in the bud.”
