Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu Loses Senatorial Election To APC


The governor of Niger state Babangida Aliyu of the Peoples Democratic Party   has lost the Niger-East Senatorial District.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, David Umaru overwhelmingly defeated the governor in the state’s senatorial election.

Umaru polled 49,519 votes while Governor Aliyu got only17,209 votes.

The returning officer for the district, Ali   Jigam, announced the result on Sunday at the Senatorial Election Collation Centre, College of Education in Minna.

The breakdown of the result of the senatorial election is as follows:

Gurara LGA:

Umar: 18,887

Aliyu: 6,520

Shiroro LGA

Umar: 27,191

Aliyu: 7,519

Tafa LGA:

Aliyu: 8,151

Umar: 17,596.

Bosso LGA:

Umar: 36,250

Aliyu: 7, 060

Munya LGA

Umaru: 13,666

Aliyu: 6,635

Suleja LGA

Aliyu: 12,648

Umar: 34,326
