Nigeria Dangerously Sliding Into A Failed State

FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – The Deputy presidential candidate of All Progress Congress, APC,Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has lamented the present Nigeria’s dwindling economy saying the nation is dangerously sliding into a failed state.

He also decried the alarming rate of culture of impunity under the Peoples Democratic party, PDP government, under president Goodluck Jonathan’s watch.

According to him, a situation where 80% of young graduates are unemployed, 40% of non-graduate youths are unemployed, and over125,000 kids die of related ailments is highly unacceptable to the APC.

Addressing South east students in tertiary institutions on monday in Enugu during a town hall meeting packaged by the opposition party, Osinbanjo, regretted that pervasive corruption is rife in Nigeria, and President Goodluck Jonathan seems unconcerned over it.

He noted that the unbridled corruption under president Jonathan’s watch, including the gross missing funds, were enough to fix the nation’s critical infrastructure like refineries, roads, rail lines, dams and social service architecture of our amongst others.

Osinbanjo, told the future leaders that APC designed the interface programme with the youths because they fall under a critical and bulk populace.

The APC Deputy presidential candidate, further explained that the youth town hall meeting was equally aimed at having intensive engagements with Nigerian youths.

Osinbanjo, who insisted that Nigeria needed change, promised that the APC government would provide 20,000 jobs per state if voted into power.

On the issue of Buhari, islamizing Nigeria if elected, as being speculated in some quarters, Osinbanjo, dismissed such notion, saying he has no such agenda.

He pointed out that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria defines Nigeria as a secular state and most importantly, as a military Head of State, Gneeral Buhari (RTD) neither did not join OIC nor used draconian powers at his disposal to Islamize the country.

“Our programmes are designed to fight corruption, provide maximum security, revamp Enugu Coal so as to create one million jobs for South East youths.

Osinbanjo, and the APC presidential team, had earlier visited the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. (Dr) Calistus Onaga, during which they solicited for the church’s support.

In his remarks, Bishop Onaga, had pleaded that the managers of the election should allow the peoples votes to count, so as to allow the peoples choice to be elected.
