Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuade Dies At 85

By Ayo Balogun – The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade is dead. The Oba died on Tuesday evening in a London Hospital.
He was said to have died around 5pm after battle with illness which led to him being flown abroad.
The monarch was said to have been flown out of the country few days ago in an unconscious state as his situation was serious.
Another source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to our correspondent, explained that Oba Sijuwade was flown out of the country from Ibadan about five days ago in an unconscious state.
Sijuwade was born on 1 January, 1930. He became the 50th Ooni of Ife in 1980, taking the regnal name Olubuse II.
He was crowned on 6 December 1980 in a ceremony attended by the Emir of Kano, Oba of Benin, Amayanabo of Opobo and Olu of Warri, as well as by representatives of the Queen of England.
