Police Boss Promises Force Overhauling


The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar has reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to ensure physical and mental welfare of its personnel.

The Police Boss stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of a three-day medical seminar for police officers.

IGP Abubakar promised more assistance to police health institutions in all the geopolitical zones, as a way of motivating its personnel. He added that the force would not only pay its specialists, (police salary) but also pay its officers professional fees.

The Police boss announced that it was already building 26-bed cottage hospitals in each of the six geo-political zones of the country, adding that there was no command presently in the country without a medical facility.

“We have made it a point of duty now, that very soon, if there is going to be a recruitment, utmost consideration will be given to people in this field to be able to have more medical personnel”, Abubakar explained.

He revealed that the Police High Command has evolved measures to reposition the Police Medical Services for greater efficiency in view of the urgent need to cater for the health of police personnel especially as the nation battles with insurgency.

Abubakar confessed that the force medical departments has been sleeping and it was trying to resuscitate them. He promised more attention on the Force forensic unit as well as other aspects which could enhance the performance of the force personnel.
