Rights Group Mourns National Advisory Committee Council, CLO Board Of Governors Member


(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A human rights organization, Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network (CRRAN) has expressed shock over the sudden demise of a founding member and Board of governors of the Civil Liberties organization CLO, Comrade Dr. Amdife Danjuma Gambo, who is also a member of its National Advisory Council.

The human Rights Activist who transited to immortality on 4th May 2022, died at the age of 62.

A statement containing a brief biography of Dr. Gambo, issued by president of CRRAN, Barrister Olu Omotayo, and made available to African Examiner in Enugu revealed that the deceased began his tertiary educational career at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, in 1982, where he was admitted to study Veterinary medicine, but was to be among the student activists expelled from the University aftermath of the 1986 students unrest.

According to the Statement, “At ABU he as a close associate and confidant of Late Yau Yaradua, the younger brother of Late President Yaradua, who was chased to death.

“Unrelenting Dr. Gambo got admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN), Where he later graduated as a Veterinary surgeon.

“It was at the UNN that he met and worked with allies like Late Chima Ubani, Late Emma Ezeazu and Late Innocent Chukwuma, and Comrade Lanre Osaze Nosaze, the former Executive Director of the Civil Liberties Organiosation.

“He was a leading light of the radical student movement in the years, he was at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, adding that Gambo was active in the radical student movement in the early 1990s, and was Speaker of the UNN Students Union Parliament in 1992-1993.

“On 23 May 1993, while he was still the Speaker of the student’s parliament, he was arrested alongside Dr Henry Onwubiko and Silas Monroe on their way to Nsukka from a meeting of the Campaign for Democracy in Benin city.

“That was during the struggle that forced out the military from governance and in 1999 produced the current regime of civil rule that Nigeria is experiencing today.

“Apart from being a dedicated member of ASUU, he was a pointer to the establishment of many radical groups in Nigeria, such as YUSSAN to fight the apartheid regime in Africa and South Africa, PYM Progresive Youth Movement of Nigeria. He was also among founding member of Campaign for Democracy (CD), United Action for Democracy (UAD), JAC, etc.

“He was also a founding member of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) and also a member of Board of Governors of the Organization until his demise.

“Comrade Gambo was married to Mrs. Jumai Veronica Mainaji Gambo (Nee Aibe) and they have a young family of four lovely Children.

The Statement disclosed that, there will be a Service of Songs for the Departed Comrade at the Cathedral Church of Good Shepherd, Independence Layout, on Monday 6th June 2022, at 5pm.

“On Tuesday 7th June 2022, there will be a Lying in state at the church at 11: 30 am, followed by a Commendation Serviceat 12 noon, Comrade Gambo will be interred to mother earth on the 9th June 2022, at the Adam Kolo Cemetry, New Layout, Lokoja.

“O Lord Grant his Soul eternal rest. Rest in Peace our Dear Comrade Danjuma Gambo” the statement concluded
