Pastor Godswill Akpabio And His Many Prophecies

Saturday Xtra::By Oyewale Oyelola

I guess you are still wondering who is Pastor Godswill Akpabio, thinking he’s a pastor of one of the new generation churches. Stop guessing, Pastor Godswill Akpabio is the same Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state and Chairman PDP Governor’s Forum.

Akwa-Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio

The recent prophetic words coming from Akpabio and his show of depth knowledge of the word of God as contained in Holy Bible made me assume he is qualified to be a Pastor.

Obong (Barr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio emerged as governor of Akwa Ibom state in 2007 and his second term tenure ends May 29, 2015.

Therefore, the lawyer turned politician is doing everything possible to remain relevant in Nigeria politics beyond 2015. It’s a known fact that Governor Akpabio is a core loyalist of President Goodluck Jonathan and his loyalty earned him the position of the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum(PDPGF) to tame the growing influence of Governor Rotimi Ameachi led Nigerian Governors Forum in 2013.

The formation of PDPGF was described as ‘child of necessity’ by the President. Presidency source disclosed that PDPGF was founded to weaken NGF as some PDP governors were using the forum to work against the interest of the President Jonathan and PDP as a whole.

Governor Godswill Akpabio at his first meeting with PDP National Working Committee held that PDP members are like disciples of Jesus and vowed that all Judases in the party would be flushed out.

“What the PDP is trying to do now is to cleanse its house; to try to identify the ones they call Judases and say to them ‘go out, the train is moving’. We will ask them not to remain standing otherwise we will crush them,” Akpabio added.

No doubt his prophecy became reality as former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubukar, 5 PDP governors; Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Ibrahim Wammako (Sokoto), Impeached Adamawa state governor, Muritala Nyako and majority of aggrieved PDP members who formed New PDP decamped to All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013.

Although, the defection almost initially put APC as majority party in Federal House of Representative but PDP regained the majority with lots of political gimmicks.

Akpabio later confirmed that PDP is waxing stronger after flushing out the Judases. He assured PDP caucus in lower chamber that God is with the party, when he visited them alongside governor Segun Mimiko (Labour party) and Peter Obi (Anambra) to show them that PDP is not alone.

His profile on Akwa Ibom state website states that the governor is a devout Christian imbued with true greatness wrapped in simplicity and a strong, unshakable faith in the will of God.

Joe Iniodu in his article titled ‘Akpabio`s Passion For God’ writes:

“His fervent Christian background seems to dog his life, trail his every step, underline his mien and occupy every facet of his endeavour. His boundless love for God radiates eloquently in most of his speeches, which he often starts with, “To God be the Glory” with the rest of the submission enjoying interjections which glorify God.

“Governor Akpabio and God appear to have found a common ground where love for God is exchanged for preservation and sustained upliftment. It is perhaps why the numerous obstacles arrayed in the course of his life from childhood like the early lost of his father to the disingenuous mischief of his political detractors have continually floundered and fallen short of their expected ends. His life is eloquent proof of the liturgical precept which avers that if God is with you, no man can be against you”

Governor Akpabio who is seeking to take over Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District seat, presently occupied by Senator Aloysius Etok in 2015 last Saturday rained curses on governorship aspirants who he has not endorsed for the 2015 governors contest in the state, referring to them as enemies who betrayed him.

Akpabio in a fit of anger likened the aspirants as Lucifer and the Biblical Absalom who betrayed God and King David respectively, averring that none of the governorship aspirants would get the chance to rule Akwa Ibom state as they had desired.

He said: “Those who want to take power through the backdoor will die. They will die! And the PDP will continue.

“In Akwa Ibom State, those who want to betray, who were supposed to be our political children, of course they will end like Absalom. But if they changed their minds, then they will obtain favour from the sight of God.

“Almighty God recognized that even the people he worked with, and called them angels, that one of them was going to betray him, and that was Lucifer. What did God do? He threw him out of heaven. Has he entered Heaven till today?

The Akwa Ibom state governor should stop dragging God to dirty politics in the state because there is no permanent friend or enemy in politics, what is permanent is individual interest.

He should be reminded of how he plotted the exit of Bamakar Tukur as PDP Chairman, Akpabio mobilized everybody against Tukur because he (Tukur) allegedly muddled in the affairs of Akwa Ibom state PDP.

Akpabio’s senseless political curses are typical of the old saying – Kettle calling pot black. What have the aspirants in Akwa-Ibom done that Akapabio has not done to his own political career. Note that when you point one finger at others, other fingers are pointing at you. So, “Pastor” Akpabio, stop dragging God into your dirty and corrupt Nigeria’s politics.
