Sea Pirates Kill Naval Officer In Bayelsa

By Ignatius Okpara – Heavily armed hoodlums suspected to be sea pirates at the weekend shot and killed a naval officer in Akassa, Brass Council Area of Bayelsa State.

African Examiner gathered that the gunmen, who were three in number, opened fire on a Navy crew that were on a routine checkpoint in Akassa area of former president Goodluck Jonathan’s state.

A security source who craved anonymity said the gunmen had earlier raised their hands up at the Navy routine checkpoint in compliance with the security regulations on the waterways.

He said the hoodlums, opened fire on the officers while they were checking other passenger boats.

They were said to have zoomed off into the creeks shortly after killing the naval officer.

Meanwhile, the dead body of the unnamed security officer, who is said to be working at the Forward Operating Base, Formoso, had been recovered and deposited at an undisclosed mortuary in Brass.

The Commanding Officer, FOB FORMOSO, Captain A.S. Olanrewaju, when contacted, declined comment on the ugly development.

However, another source close to the Naval base said, the authorities had already invited the Commanding Officer of the FOB FORMOSO to brief them on the attack.
