Serving South-East Governor Accused Of Sponsoring Ohaneze Crisis

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – An incumbent governor in one of the South East states of Nigeria, has been accused of sponsoring the Chief Chidi Ibeh, led aggrieved group of the apex Igbo Socio cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo to keep fomenting trouble.

The said governor, who has been allegedly funding the group since they commenced operation in January this year, is unhappy with the emergence of former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, (USA) professor George Obiozor, as the new president – General of the Igbo umbrella body.

A source close to the organization who craved anonymity told our correspondent that “we are not kids, we know who is funding the disgruntled group, parading them selves as Ohanezes.

“We know that a top government office holder  in South East is using tax payer money to  give them serious financial support because of his selfish interest, but I tell you, at the appropriate time, we are going to expose him.

“He thinks this hide and seek game he is playing will continue. No way, soonest,  we are going to let Ndigbo and the world know that he is a pretender, chameleon and hater of the Igbo race.

“We are not  unaware that he recently gave Ibeh and his group money to acquire an office space in Enugu and promised to be paying them monthly imp rest.

But  let me tell you, no amount of cheap blackmail will deter the president – General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, professor Obiozor from doing what he has come to do for Ndigbo.

Recalled that Obiozor, emerged winner at the keenly contested Ohaneze delegate election held on 10th, of January, 2021, at the Dan Anyiam Sports Stadium, Owerri, the Imo state capital, after defeating two other contestants.

The  Imo state born Diplomat, polled a total of 304 votes to humiliate Mr. Uju Okoro, who scored 3 votes, and Chief Valentine Oparaocha, who garnered 15 votes.

Irked by the manner he was allegedly edged out of the race, by the Chief Garry Enwo Igariwey led electoral Committee ahead of the  Owerri poll, Ibeh, a former Commissioner in Imo state and Aspirant in the election, immediately allegedly gathered fellow aggrieved Aspirants in an undisclosed venue  in Enugu  to announce his own executive Committee (Exco)

The Owerri electoral gathering was graced by several top Igbo political, religious and Traditional leaders, such as Chairman of South- East Governors forum, and Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi,  Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinmma, Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, Nigeria’s Minister Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, his counterpart in Ministry of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige,  and the then, out going president General, Chief Nnia John Nwodo.

Others are, Minister of state for Mines development, Uche Ogah, Obi of Onitsha, Afred Achebe, ex- Governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Andy Ubah, amongst others, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
