10th NASS Leadership: Respect Tinubu Choices, Ohanaeze Urges Members Elect.

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has again urged the members-elect to put national interest above all sectional and personal interests.

The group spoke  through a statement by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike made available to newsmen on  Sunday in Enugu.

He said the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promises to be ready for good governance and deserves the support of all Nigerians, including the members of the National Assembly.

Okwu noted that with the robust and supportive National Assembly, President Tinubu would not have obstacles on his way towards restoring the nation to the path of growth and development.

“What should matter to the incoming members of the Senate and the House of Representatives is the general interest of Nigerians.

“While we are against rubber stamp legislation, we are supportive of handing NASS leadership that would work in harmony with the executive.

“We are aware that the President’s choice is Senator Godswil Akpabio for Senate President and Tajudeen Abas for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

According to him, “We are upbeat that the National Assembly will experience robust legislative session under their leadership.

“Even though there is outcry that the South-East deserves more than having Hon. Benjamin Kalu as Deputy Speaker, we urge our people to remain calm as more things would come.

“Judging by the voting pattern during the presidential election, we all know that the South-East didn’t do much for the APC. Besides, Akpabio is an in-law to Ndigbo and will surely protect our interest.

The added that “We are optimistic that the choices President Tinubu has made for the 10th NASS leadership must have been made after much consideration.

“We, therefore, appeal to all the members-elect to respect the decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the overall interest of the country as we look forward to a situation where positive bills would be passed and signed by Mr President with haste,” Okwu stated.
