A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Emmanuel Deeyah has been arrested today (Friday) by the police at the state office of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
Our correspondent reports that no reason was given for the arrest but added that this one of the series of arrest in couple of days.
An official of APC who does want his name to be mentioned said the party had heard that there were plans by security agents to massively arrest APC chieftains and this has begun to lay out.
“Yesterday (Thursday) one of the APC leaders in Ikwerre local government area was arrested by police.
“He is still with them. Charles Anyanwu, CTC chairman for Etche local government area was arrested and has been in detention for two weeks now. He was arrested on trumped up charges by his dad, Emma Anyanwu, a PDP chieftain who claimed that Charles summoned him before a shrine.
“There were other party agents were present as this is the usual practice during elections.
“The APC in Rivers state is worried about this as it confirms our fears that the federal government does not want elections to hold in Rivers state.
“The PDP had risen from a meeting with instructions that all APC chieftains and as many members as possible should be arrested.” The source stated.
