EDO, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Edo Chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected a former Secretary to the State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as its flagbearer in the coming State’s gubernatorial election.
The ex-SSG who was declared the winner Monday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the State capital and the venue of the party’s primary polled a total of 584 votes to come ahead of his co-aspirants, who included Messrs Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Solomon Edebiri.
The duo scored 91 and 38 votes to emerge the first and second runners-up respectively.
The Ebonyi State Governor doubled as the Chairman of the Primary committee. Other PDP Chietains who attended the decisive exercise were Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Gombe counterpart Ibrahim Dakwambo.
Presenting Mr. Ize-Iyamu to the party members, primaries committee chairman thanked all PDP governors and members for their support which led to the success of the exercise.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ize-Iyamu commended the national leadership of the party and the electoral committee for transparency and fairness in the process.
He said the fight to reclaim Edo State in the September election has just begun.
