Following the attack by unknown gunmen in Government Girls Secondary School Yana, in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State last Sunday, which led to the death of a 5 year old girl and destruction of properties, the State Government has evacuated about 200 students from the School.
African Examiner gathered that the action was taken to avert what happened in Chibok Government Girls Secondary School, Borno State, where several girls were abducted on the 14th, April, 2014.
The State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Aminu told journalists on Monday, that the students were evacuated to enable the school authorities carry out renovation work.
He said “the state government orders the evacuation of the students to enable renovation work on the buildings, but the evacuation is temporary because they will only stay away for three weeks.
“The only students in the school now are the final year students writing WAEC exams because the JSS 1-3 and SSS 1-2 are on holiday so we want to use this period to renovate the destroyed building to enable them learn in conducive environment when they resume.
He denied the evacuation of the students been connected to the attack launched in the area on Sunday assuring that adequate security measures have been put in place by the state government to ensure the security of not only the students of GGSS Yana but all the schools in Bauchi state.
It would be recalled that unknown gunmen at the early hour of Easter Sunday launched an attack at Yana Town in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State and burnt a 5 year old girl to death.
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relation Officer of Bauchi State Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the gunmen set ablaze Staff quarters, School Bus of GGSS Yana, GSM Mask of MTN, ,Glo, and Etisalat.
He said the Hoodlums also attacked a branch office of first bank and destroyed their Vault, adding that,15 vehicles were destroyed at the Shira LG secretariat as well as their Conference hall .
“Apart from a 5yr old girl who was burnt to death, no other casualties as all the students are intact while the Private vehicle of the school principal was taken away by the hoodlums.”
