Less than two weeks police in Ebonyi State arrested a Pastor for allegedly raping a 23 year old girl, the security operatives has launched a manhunt on another rapist in the state who forcefully had carnal knowledge of one Chioma Mgbada at gun point.
The state Police Command said on Thursday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, that the perpetrator of the crime, one Sunday Obaji, raped his victim at Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, George Okafor, who disclosed this to newsmen, had noted that the suspect barged into the victim’s room and raped her at gun point.
According to the PPRO, “On the 7th of March, 2016, one Mgbada Chioma from Effium community, Ohaukwu local government reported to the Police that at about 2 am in the morning, one Sunday Obaji, entered her bed room, pointed gun at her and threatened to kill her if she raised alarm.
“In the process, Sunday Obaji tore her dress and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her and after, escaped.”
Okafor hinted that detectives from the Command had visited the scene.
“The matter is under investigation, and the suspect is on the run; we are trying to trace him to wherever we can, he cannot run for long” the PPRO declared.
“The community should assist in producing him because they know him very well.”
He however, called on members of the community to assist in apprehending the suspect, assuring people of the state of the Command’s commitment in stamping out criminal elements from the area.
Okafor also reiterated the resolve of the police to fight the scourge of violence against women to a standstill in the state.
“We are talking about violence against women and this is one of such violence. Wherever this man is, we must fish him out.
“He is a native of the community; even if he escaped from the community, they have to fish him out.
“He must be punished and we are calling on this community to do something immediately and produce this suspect.”
