In a fresh move to reposition the state’s economy, the State Executive Council had on on Friday voted for a waiver to employ civil servants in the area.

The waiver for employment was approved during the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Orji which had in attendance the state deputy Governor, Sir Emeka Ananaba, commissioners and other top government functionaries .

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor CPS, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, stated that those to benefit from the waiver for employment are Abians especially youths and those who returned from the northern part of the country because of security problems.

The statement, added that the idea was also part of fresh move to stem the tide of growing unemployment in the state.

Also to benefit from the waiver, includes non-indigenes disengaged from the state’s civil service in 2011, who were recently recalled back to service.

African Examiner, recalled that in apparent response to continued shortfall in revenue accruable to the state, the state government had placed embargo on employment of civil servants .

While Governor Orji’s policy decision pitched the state against fresh graduates desirous of employment, the big hammer fell mostly on no- indigenes who were disengaged to allow the state sufficient leverage to recover from an imminent financial distress.

Explaining the reason behind the lifting of the job embargo, Governor Orji, stated that the state had recorded an appreciable increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue IGR.

“This has offered me an opportunity to absorb fresh graduates with special consideration for non-indigenes who were disengaged from the State Civil service in 2011”.

To this effect, the Governor had since inaugurated a committee headed by the state’s Head of Service Barrister G.C. Adiele, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe, Commissioners for Education, and Youth Development, to work out modalities for a successful employment service.

In a related development, the Governor has also inaugurated a Strategy Committee for the building of a model Airport in Abia State.
