Southeast APC Replies Prof. Ben Nwabueze, Says One Party System Not Good For Nigeria

FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – The South east chapter of the opposition All progress Congress, APC, has frowned at the recent call for a one party state, by the professor Nwabueze led Project Nigeria Movement.

Briefing members of the party on its forthcoming South East Zonal Rally, scheduled to take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu on saturday 14th March 2015, publicity secretary of the party in the zone, Mr Osita Okechukwu condemned the one party statement.

Quoting Professor Nawbueze, “Whoever wins the election will constitute his government with ministers drawn from both parties or from all the parties that contested the presidential election in a manner to be agreed under a formal accord.”

Okechukwu said: “Whereas we are not opposed to unity of any kind; however we are of the candid opinion that the Nigerian state is better of with two dominate political parties in a multi-party system.

“This is the zenith of liberal democracy, where neither APC nor Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will secure 2/3 of the National or State Assembly, where consensus prevails over family affair’

On the position of Project Nigeria Movement that, “Without prejudice to the provision of the constitution effective presidential leadership requires a president with good and sound qualifications in particular, requires good education up to a minimum of university first degree or its equivalent’, we view this as arrant none sense.

“We said arrant none sense in view of the fact that we cannot locate how Doctor of Philosophy in Zoology stopped President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s regime from woeful failure in all departments – collapsed economy, clashed Naira, dilapidated infrastructure and capital flight.

“Why didn’t Ph.D aid Jonathan to complete the East-West Road, fix the 3 Greenfield Refineries he awarded on 13th May 2010, stem the fuel subsidy scam and stem the pervasive poverty in the land?

“And why didn’t Jonathan implement the relevant aspects of the National Conference report which need no constitutional amendment?

” Or where is his Executive Bill to the National Assembly since the report was submitted last August.’

According to APC, “We appreciate the fact that Project Nigeria Movement notes that General Muhammadu Buhari is the front runner.

It therefore, call on Ndigbo to grace the zonal rally to hear from the APC presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari.
