The Police in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria, Monday confirmed that no fewer than five persons were killed during a deadly clash between two rival secret cult groups in the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO George Okafor, disclosed this to newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
He said: “We have been arresting and prosecuting cultists in the state, but the present situation escalated due to a feud between two rival cult groups in the state.
“Most of those killed are members of the cult groups as the killings have been reprisal or retaliatory in nature.”
The Police he said, was currently investigating the incidents and would soon make public the number of those arrested when findings were concluded.
According to him, “Secret cult-related incidents are common in Ebonyi, and we advise members to denounce all cult activities, while non-members should resist all temptations to join the groups.
“Cultism does not offer anything good to the society, but causes all forms of negative things” the PPRO stated.
