9 Escape Death, One Missing As Another Boat Capsizes In Lagos


At least nine people have escaped death and one still missing as another passenger boat capsized at Coconut Island area of Lagos, Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning as the local passenger boat was plying between Oba and Tin Can Island.

Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said the accident was caused by boat belonging to the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA).

According to him, “a third boat belonging to NPA was moving to tow a ship to habour and the wave from the third boat swept off the local boat which became unbalanced and capsized. One passenger that had minor injuries was rescued and taken to the hospital and was treated and discharged while others have gone to their respective destinations.”

He said those who escaped death wore life jacket, adding that the senior brother of one of the passengers on board, Idris Adekunle raised the alarm that his brother was missing.

“He appeared and told everybody that his brother was missing while one of the rescued passengers confirmed that Mr. Idris Adekunle was in the same boat with him with his personal life jacket. The incident occurred at Coconut Island. Search and rescue for the missing person is on now,” he said.
