                                                        PRESS RELEASE

THE RECENT CLAIM BY SIR CELESTINE OMEHIA THAT HE DID NOT LOOT THE
TREASURY OF RIVERS STATE- GOV. ROTIMI AMAECHI SHOULD MAKE PUBLIC
THE TRUE STATE OF OUR ACCOUNT.

We are happy to read the response of the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Sir
Celestine Omehia to our recent call on Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to ascertain the true
account of the State treasury by finding from Omehia how the fund that accrued to the State
during his tenure was expended.

With the conflicting statements from both the Government that about N100 Million was left in
the account by Omehia and Omehia’s recent disclosure that he left about N25 Billion in the
account, it becomes imperative on Governor Rotimi Amaechi to set up as a matter of urgency a
Judicial Commission of Inquiry to truly ascertain what transpired within the period of Omehia’s
tenure ship in order to move the State forward and to remove or establish that our fund within
this period was either or not properly utilized for the common interest of our people.

Sir Celestine Omehia has in his recent press briefing in Lagos mentioned a number of projects
where he stated that most of these funds was channeled to – the government should establish
what were the motives behind some of these projects- were they awarded as means through
which to plough our money into projects that has direct bearing to uplifting the living standard
of our people or conduit pipes through which our funds are siphoned.

To us, it is ridiculous, malicious, unbelievable and sheer wickedness to hear from Omehia that
billions of our money was used to import equipment of human destruction (70 armoured
personnel carriers, APC) aimed at eliminating and annihilating the militants who are our own
brothers because of the obvious abject poverty his clique imposed on our people these past
eight and half years knowing very well that the JTF has all the wherewithal to curtail the
excess of the militants if properly motivated.

In this regard, we will urge Governor Rotimi Amaechi to take the same step of auctioning some
of the planes procured by Sir Odili for his personal egoistic drive by auctioning these armoured
carriers to the Federal Government as we are not in a state of war and used the fund to address
the infrastructural inadequacies in the State which is the main cause of youth restiveness in the
State. The public can now see with us that we were right in ensuring the ouster of this new
head of a clique that does not wish our people any good.

Our stand still remains that our fund within the period of Omehia’s tenure ship should be
established to give the public a sense of belong that Amaechi’s administration is out to better its
lots and to give us the confidence that we are a co- partner in this administration to move the
State to its next level.
