$1billion Military Loan: Tambuwal Orders Panel To Submit Report

Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has directed the House Committee on Finance to  turn in its report on the one billion dollar loan requested by President Goodluck Jonathan for the purpose of procuring military hardware to fight insurgents.

This is just as Chairman of the Committee, Abdulmumin Jibril  disclosed that some of the nation’s security agencies for which the supposed equipment were meant did not what equipment is actually theirs in the whole arrangement.

He also hinted that the committee was meeting the relevant agencies against the backdrop of the continuous declining revenue of the country, and to determine how repayment for the loan, which he explained was spread across seven years would be repaid.

“We need to ask questions. We are seeking for information from the relevant agencies, some agencies don’t even know what is theirs and they are not pretending about it”.

Earlier, Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Leo Ogor had while calling for an earlier decision of the House which gives INEC the role to call for military deployment during elections to be rescinded had pointed out that it was the duty of the President to deploy Soldiers, and fund them  such as  prescribed by the National Assembly . This submission prompted Tambuwal to issue ultimatum to the committee.
