2019: Tinubu Denies Alliance with Atiku, Opposition for New Mega Political Party

By Niyi Adeyi

LAGOS, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A day after the publication in a National newspaper, speculating his alliance with some co-party stalwarts and Ahmed Makarfi-led opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has denied the report.

Prior to the recently concluded Ondo State Governorship election, speculation was rife that Tinubu and other aggrieved APC and PDP members have been meeting and deliberating on formation of a new mega party that will rival APC in the 2019 general elections.

Another APC Leader and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was named as one of the arrowheads of the emerging party. The party is also believed to be the likely choice of the loquacious Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, being the only PDP Governor left in the South west geo political zone.
While reacting Monday, Tinubu in his twitter handle – @AsiwajuTinubu tweeted: ‘’this is a party I labored with others to build. We would not abandon it for another. Millions of Nigerians who voted are watching and praying.

‘’This government, APC, is for the betterment of the people & the national purpose is bigger and more important than any individual’s desires’’.

He also tweeted that he wished to associate with the ‘’…positive historic legacy… rather than engage in destructive pettiness’’.

The former Lagos State helmsman’s opposition with the APC hierachy began when attempt to substitute his candidate, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke with the late Kogi State APC Governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu failed.

Instead, another APC stalwart and the first runners-up in the party’s primary – incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello was substituted and stood for the party till the election was concluded.

The latest of his differences with the APC Leadership was his opposition to the party’s Ondo State Governorship candidate, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN). Tinubu worked against Akeredolu and APC, by supporting candidate of another party – Mr. Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
