Anambra Lawmakers Deny Impeachment Plot Against Governor Obiano

By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Awka

Contrary to rumours making the round that members of the Anambra state house a ssembly have commenced moves to impeach Governor Willie Obiano, Speaker of the house, Mrs. Chinwe Nwebili has debunked the speculation saying they’re solidly behind the governor.

It was rumoured that the house dominated by the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, became uncomfortable with Obiano, after his Godfather and immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, dumped APGA for the PDP.

But Speaker of the house, Chinwe Nwebili had during their plenary on Tuesday dismissed the speculation, adding that the Assembly has no such plan.

She stressed that such publications are products of some idle minds who are far from reality.

The resolution to deny to rumour was based on the motion moved by Majority Leader, Halford Oseke and seconded by Tony Muonagor the minority leader.

According to the lawmakers, such report are baseless and should be disregarded by members of the public.

Muonagor who belongs to the All Progressives Congress APC, said that he was supporting the motion based on creditability and flamboyance of leadership shown by the governor in relating to his subjects.

This he said, was responsible for addressing the security issues that had been tormenting the people of the state over the years.

The 25 lawmakers present at the plenary had in their separate submissions, applauded the achievements of the governor with the short period he assumed office in the state.

They cited some laudable ongoing projects such as renovation of about 1,300 schools across the state and award of free education to physically challenged students from primary to tertiary level.

The legislators, also commended the governor for introducing measures that improved and still improving the internally generated revenue IGR base of the state.
