Jonathan Appoints Tukur As Ambassador-at-Large

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday appointed the former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Bamanga Tukur as Ambassador-At-Large.
A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosed that an the ambassador -at-large is “an Envoy is assigned Special Duties, by the President”.
Tukur is current the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nigerian Railway Corporation.
He served as the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports’ Authority (NPA) from 1975 to 1982. He was also Nigeria Minister for Industry between 1994 and 1995.
The Adamawa-born politician other appointments include the Vice Chairman of the International Ports and Harbours Association; Chairman of the International Cargo Handling Association among others.
Tukur was forced to resign as PDP National Chairman in January 2014 to save the party from imminent collapse due to internal crisis that led to defection of five elected PDP governors and 37 House of Representative members.
