Oil Sector: House Moves To Probe Obasanjo, Others
  • Speaker Bankole Urges C’ttee Members To be Above Board

The Nigerian House of Representatives has approved a 26- man panel to probe the decay in
the oil sector of the nation’s economy.

The reason for the probe was amply captured in the submission of Hon. Halims Agoda who
said
‘Everything in the sector is shrouded in secrecy and that is not healthy for this country.’

Members also noted that it was a shame that some activities in the oil sector are done
without regards for due process noting that oil producing countries like Nigeria should be
among buoyant economy in the world.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole has urged the committee
members to discharge their duty without fear or favour reminding them that the image of the
house is at stake if they fail in the assignment given to them.

Hon. Tam Brisbe chairman house committee on petroleum (Upstream), his Down stream
counterpart Clever Ikisikpo and Leo Ogor, chair inter-governmental Affairs are to serve as
co-chairmen of the committee.

African Examiner gathered that former President Olusegun Obasanjo who put Ministry of
petroleum resources under his tutelage during his last eight years administration will be
among prominent Nigerians to appear before the committee.
