AU Troops Killed Two Shabaab Commanders in Somalia

Two Senior Commanders, Issa Mohamed Dhoore and another of al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab insurgents group have been reportedly killed in the latest offensive on Friday by the African Union (AU) troops in Somalia.

In the strike, fighter jets pounded the town of Jilib in southern Somalia’s – Middle Juba region yesterday. The offensive was launched by the 22 000 UN-backed AU troops – (Amisom) on a special mission in the country since March this year in a bid to quench the militants’ insurgency.

The troops confirmed that they had attacked an insurgent base near Jilib on Thursday and destroyed the group’s logistical base as well as attacked many rebels.

AU fighters have also boasted of capturing a strategic militant training and planning camp in the village of Khadija Haji in Gedo region in the far southwest, close to the border with Kenya.
