Ebonyi Bans Entry Of Corpses Without Death Certificate

As part of measures to guide against the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Ebonyi state, Governor Martin Elechi, led Government has banned conveying of Corpses without certified death Certificates into the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, gave the order in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday.

He said the state government has put in place a lot of precautionary measures  to guide against the outbreak of the deadly  disease which has continued to rage in some African nations.

The Commissioner explained that the request for truly death Certificates for Corpses entering the state was to further guide against the outbreak since it is contagious.

Dr. Nwangle however, directed that anybody or group of People bringing Corpses to the state to register with the nearest Health Centres before proceeding to their destinations.

He added the state Government has set up rapid response Committee on the disease to urgently attend to any suspected or confirmed victim in any part of the state.

The Commissioner assured the People that there was no case of the disease in any part of the state; just  as he warned mortuary attendants in both public and private hospitals to stop accepting corpses without genuine death certificate.

He also appealed to residents of the state to complement government effort by maintaining a decent environment, washing of hands regularly and avoiding eating bush meats among others.
