Fayose Impeachment: Ekiti APC Lawmakers Ask Chief Judge To Raise Probe Panel

By Akin Soneyin – The embattled Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s hope of remaining on the exalted seat was dimmed Thursday, as the 19 opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) moved the motion and directed the State Chief Judge, Justice A. Daramola, to constitute a panel of investigation to unravel alleged misconduct against him.

The opposition legislators led by the substantive Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin, were said to make the directive during a plenary, which was held in an undisclosed location in Ado Ekiti, the State capital.

The order for investigation followed the impeachment notice served the Governor on March 3, 2015.

Attempt by the legislators to sack the controversial South Western State Governor went viral in the news since last week, but suffered serious setback as Fayose’s Deputy, Mr. Olusola Kolapo led his boss supporters with armed Policemen to block entrance to the State House of Assembly complex, denying the lawmakers access to the legislative complex.

Similarly, the lawmakers were also prevented from entering the State capital, Tuesday as pro-Fayose protesters and thugs overtook their entering point into Ado Ekiti. One person was killed in the fiasco.

Fayose Wednesday lost in his bid to scuttle the impeachment, as a Federal High Court in Abuja, rejected his prayers to stop the state lawmakers from proceeding on the lingering sack process.
