Reactions As Lagos State Govt Shuts Alaba International Market

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The news that the Lagos State Government has sealed the Alaba International Market has caused uproar on social media. The African Examiner writes that the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, on Monday took to his social media accounts saying that the market was closed because of poor waste disposal practices.

Wahab writes: “Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offences.”

It could be recalled that this is not the first time the Lagos State government will be closing markets as popular markets like Mile 12 and Ladipo have been closed and reopened.

The recent shutting down of the Alaba International Market by the government has made some netizens believe that the frequent shutting down of markets predominated by the Igbos by the Lagos State government is political witch-hunting.
