“Hip Hop Is Dead” Comment: Reactions As Wizkid Shades Don Jazzy

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Nigerians on Monday slammed Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, after he disrespected music executive, Don Jazzy while reacting to a shade fired at him by Mavin signee, Ladipoe.

Ladipoe, a rapper signed to Don Jazzy’s label, recently berated Wizkid for his controversial “hip hop is dead” comment.

“Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own,” Ladipoe wrote via X.

A fan called Wizkid’s attention to the shade on Monday morning and the singer said: “lol never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer. Next.d’.”

Wizkid also retweeted two tweets which suggested that he was referring to Don Jazzy as a social media influencer.

This development has sparked social media reactions as some netizens took to X to lampoon Wizkid for disrespecting Don Jazzy whom many refer to as a music icon. The African Examiner gathers a few of their thoughts below:

@ajibade_demola writes: “VDM said everything that we all need to know, Or he should ask from Wande coal.. And don’t forget works going fine here in the workshop.”

@iamlarrygaga writes: “Don Jazzy is way off them wizkid level.”

@officalmro writes: “I don’t see reason why Wizkid just wants to bring this up is that is to selfish to himself VDM is right about this.”

@Fawazino6 writes: “Don J does not deserve all this disrespect at all at all.”

Also, Big Brother Naija reality star, Doyinsola Anuoluwapo David, aka Doyin, has joined voices with others to lampooned Wizkid for “chasing clout” on social media.

Doyin writes: “Don Jazzy is still the JayZ of the Nigerian music industry. If you try to disrespect him, it just shows your head is not correct. No be to dey chase clout, drop hit!”

Also, reality TV star and media personality, Tacha in a video message has cautioned Wizkid that any slander or disrespect towards Don Jazzy won’t be accepted.

Tacha said: “No Don Jazzy slander will be tolerated. Don Jazzy’s impact on the entertainment industry can never be overemphasised.

“If you have to take off Don Jazzy’s inputs on the industry, that would be you taking half of Afrobeats away. Because who would you be listening to? Don Jazzy has grown a lot of global superstars.

“This is somebody who doesn’t restrict himself to the music industry alone. Don Jazzy is there for everybody regardless of their status.”

The African Examiner writes that Don Jazzy has reacted to Wizkid’s shade at him by unfollowing him on Instagram.
