Another Casualty, Appeal Court Sacks Bayelsa Governor
*Wild Jubilation Greets Yenagoa
By Our Correspondent
Published April 17, 2007
The court of appeal sitting in Port Harcourt has annulled the election of Bayelsa Governor,
Timipre Sylva in another landmark judgment against monumental frauds perpetrated by the
ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the infamous leadership of former president
Olusegun Obasanjo.
Reports say that Yenogoa the state capital and some part of the state exploded into big frenzy
of wild jubilation after the judgment.
The four judges of the appellate court unanimously held that no governorship election took
place on April 14, 2007 in the state due to failure of Governor Syle and the Independent
National electoral Commission (INEC) to produce the form EC8A of the eection.
The court ordered INEC to conduct fresh elections within 90 days.
The speaker of the house Wernipre Seibarugu is to be sworn in as the acting Governor
pending the conduct of fresh elections in the state.
While AC and its supporters trooped out to celebrate the judgment, PDP supporters wore
mourning faces both in Bayelsa, Abuja and Aso Rock.
Meanwhile, the removed Governor Sylva said he had taken the judgment in good fate while
PDP national office said the judgment was a set back for the party.
The judgment is a big blow for the ruling PDP and Yardua’s administration because Vice
President Jonathan Goodluck is from Bayelsa state. You would also recall the he was the
immediate governor of the state who handed over to a ‘stooge’ in an election which the
Appeal Court obviously slammed as charade.
