Analysis: All Now Set For Bayelsa Governorship Election

By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Yenagoa

All is now set for Saturday December 05,  2015 governorship election in Bayelsa state, South- South Nigeria.

AFRICAN EXAMINER Correspondent, Ignatius Okpara, who is covering the exercise, reports that a total of 20 candidates are vying to occupy the Creek Haven, Bayelsa State Government House as contained on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list.

Rigorous party campaigns in the last few months have shown that the gubernatorial election is a political battle between the incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Timipre Sylva, an ex- governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

In the end, Only one candidate would be victorious in the exercise which has a total of 663,639 registered voters.

Some residents of the state who spoke to AFRICAN EXAMINER said Governor Dickson is the man to beat in the election, based on his tremendous achievements in the last three and half years he took over mantle of leadership of the state.

“As far as tomorrow’s Bayelsa election is concerned, Governor Dickson holds the ace because he deserves a second term in office” said a resident who craved anonymity.

Meanwhile, security have been beefed up in and around the state ahead of the poll. Our Correspondent observed that security operatives are now subjecting vehicles and their occupants coming into the state to a thorough check.
