Onyeama, Huawei Telecom Donate Educational Materials To Enugu Schools


(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, in partnership with Chinese telecommunication giant, Huawei have flagged off the distribution of free assorted educational materials valued several millions to selected schools in Udi Council areas of Enugu state.

Speaking at the event held at Central school, Amankwo Community, in Eke, Udi Council area of the state, where he also hails from, the Minister, explained that the gesture was aimed at supporting the beneficiaries in improving their studies in their basic education programme pursuit.

African Examiner reports that the partnership deal with Huawei was struck by the Minister via his pet project, operating under the platform of (Kwusike) Foundation, meaning stand firm.

While thanking the foreign Telcom firm for the collaboration, Onyeama, noted that the importance of education in any society can never be over emphasised, stressing that it remains a veritable tool for advancement in any nation, including Nigeria, hence, the need for all and sundry to always support the sector.

According to him, it’s known fact that education remains the key to greatness and success, and most vital sector in any country, “and that is why no nation can move forward or make meaningful headway without it, advising the pupils to always take their studies very seriously, as it is the best way to secure their future.

 He told the pupils that “we will continue to support you in any way we can, so as to ensure that you have conducive learning environment, because its only through education that you can become Ambassadors, medical Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, and leaders of tomorrow.

The Minister disclosed that the gesture will equally be replicated in three selected schools in each of the 17 local government areas of the state.

In his speech at the event, the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Huawei, Mr. Kelvin Yang, said the company “has been operating in Nigeria for 21 years,  so by now I can say that Huawei is a family member to Nigeria.

“As a company, we are not just here to do business. It is our dream to support Nigeria by bridging the digital gap in each society. This is why we work tirelessly to partner with all stakeholders to provide technology Innovation, knowledge transfer, and carry out corporate social responsibility.

“We are committed to cultivating local talents. We believe that if we can secure quality education for our youths, a bright future is secure for Nigeria. So far, Huawel has partnered with universities, colleges and schools across Nigeria to help them to improve their study environment and enhance knowledge transfer with latest ICT skills.

According to Yang, “We are highly inspired by His Excellency, the Minister of foreign Affairs, who has continued to encourage us to expand our scope, we have come here to see the beauty of Enugu state to ourselves and also play our own part in supporting the growth of basic education here.

African Examiner reports that some of the items donated to the five benefiting schools, included reading Chairs,  Desks, Exercise books,  School bags, Mathematics set, Text books as well as cash donations  to the schools for the  engagement of more teachers.
