Reactions As Nigerians Speak On Tinubu’s $100,000 Gift To D’Tigress

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Nigerians have reacted on social media as they expressed their mind after President Bola Tinubu gifted D’Tigress for winning the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket in Cote d’Ivoire just as he did for Nigeria’s Super Falcons.

The African Examiner had earlier reported that Nigeria on Sunday defeated Mali 78-64 in the final that was held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.

This triumph means that Nigeria is the only country ever to clinch the women’s Afrobasket title five times in a row.

In an event at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented Tinubu, announced the rewards as he received the D’Tigress.

The President pledged $100,000 to each of the players and members of the technical crew are to receive $50,000 each.

Also, each player and official in the team will receive an apartment in the Federal Capital Territory, as well as a national honour.

Reacting, some Nigerians expressed mixed feelings about the reward package to the D’Tigress.

Prisca Thomas in a Facebook comment, said, “So this kind money dey this country? Chim oo.”

Another Facebook user, Etimbuk Benson writes: “He will go and borrow money and come and share it in dollars.. good economic policy.. una do well o.”

Odugala Joseph writes: “It has been confirmed that we share borrowed money. Asiwaju, money na water.”
