APC Berates Peter Obi For Calling Nigeria A ‘Killing Field’

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Lagos State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has lampooned Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for saying that Nigeria has become a “killing field” with over 10,000 deaths recorded during the stewardship of President Bola Tinubu.
The party, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, described Obi’s remarks as baseless, sensationalist, and a distortion of reality targeted at scoring political points.
According to Oladejo, the Nigerian Armed Forces have made a significant impact under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and also restored security and stability to previously threatened communities.
He referred to figures from the Defence Ministry’s midterm report and Defence Headquarters’ two-year summary, which indicated that 9,415 terrorists had been neutralised, 3,159 suspects arrested, and 5,449 hostages regained their freedom.
The APC also harped on major military operations, including recent airstrikes in Katsina and Borno states. In Katsina, it was stated that 76 hostages who were kidnapped in a mosque attack regained their freedom, but a child died during the process of rescue.
In Borno, 35 militants were killed by precision airstrikes, and the Nigerian military restored critical ground communications, while a weeklong offensive earlier in the year killed 76 extremists, arrested 72 suspects, and rescued eight hostages.
“It is profoundly disappointing that Mr. Obi would resort to fear-mongering rather than engage constructively,” Oladejo said.
He added, “The Lagos APC stands firmly behind the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our military heroes. We invite Mr. Obi and others to acknowledge the progress made or risk being left behind in baseless political dramatics.”
