Atiku Reacts To Gov. Okpebholo’s Threat To Peter Obi

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has kicked against the statement directed at Peter Obi, as he stated that any “threat” to the former Labour Party presidential candidate is a threat to the entire opposition.

Atiku’s statement is coming on the heels of a warning by Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who stated that Obi must not visit the state again without getting security clearance.

According to the governor, Obi’s recent visit was a security breach that allegedly led to the death of three people.
The comment by Okpebholo generated lots of criticism as many Nigerians lampooned the governor for attempting to intimidate political opponents.

However, Fred Itua, chief press secretary to the governor, stated that Governor Okpebholo was not threatening but calling for the need for security coordination when politically exposed persons visit the state.

“It is imperative to state clearly that the governor did not issue any form of threat to Mr. Obi,” the statement reads.

“But rather emphasized the need for high-profile individuals, particularly politically exposed persons, to notify and seek security clearance from the governor before embarking on any public engagements within the state.”

Reacting, Atiku expressed solidarity with Obi as he stated that “Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us!”
